Muggle Quidditch Tournament to Come to Roseville in February

will be the backdrop for something magical — The International Quidditch Association is hosting its Western Regional Championship there in February, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.

That’s right — Quidditch isn’t just a sport on the big screen and within the pages of "Harry Potter" books. Fans have gone above cape-wearing and wand-carrying ­— they’ve started Quidditch teams. With brooms between their legs, players reenact the wizarding sport.

There’s no set date yet, but the Roseville tournament is set for sometime in February, according to the SBJ, thanks to help from Placer Valley Tourism.

Hundreds of players and fans are expected to make their way to Roseville for the tournament, the SBJ reports.

According to the International Quidditch Association, there are more than 600 teams in the United States. The association’s western region includes teams in California, Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and several other states.

The first non-wizard world Quidditch game was played in Vermont in 2005 and has since grown in popularity, especially among college students.
