Poll: Is Walmart Welcome in Granite Bay?
Rumors of a Walmart coming to the Sierra Oaks Shopping Center at the border of Granite Bay and Roseville have caused some concern with residents. What do you think?

When a reader sent me a flyer that’s been circulating around Granite Bay and Roseville regarding the possibility of a Walmart opening, I was interested to hear residents’ thoughts.
The flyer (attached to the article as a PDF) clearly puts a negative spin to the idea of a Walmart looking to open in the Sierra Oaks shopping center, mentioning the crime and traffic that could come with a Walmart opening. But with a retail giant, it would also bring in jobs and business.
The location in question is the Grocery Outlet and former Smart Buy spaces in the shopping center bordering Granite Bay and Roseville at Douglas and Sierra College boulevards.

According to Linda Brown, field representative for District 4 under Supervisor Kirk Uhler, she said she doesn’t know if it will officially be a Walmart, but the county has received building plans for tenant improvements for those locations.
Although this issue will not be an agenda item at the Dec. 7 Granite Bay MAC meeting, residents can address their concerns during public comments, Brown said.

“The original use permit allows grocery/retail types uses,” Brown said in an e-mail. “Any changes to a similar use would not require any further entitlements from the county. For that reason the MAC does not take any action on this type of item.”
Currently, there is a located in Roseville about 2 miles from the Sierra Oaks shopping center.
