Roseville Patch Turns 1 Year Old

This week, Roseville Patch hit a Patch milestone — Roseville Patch celebrated its first birthday.

I had lived in Roseville for a few years before joining Patch and covered Roseville news for the local newspaper, but over the course of this year, I’ve learned so much more about Roseville.

Residents really care about the community and want to stay informed about what’s going on. That’s where I come in. I’ve had the chance to dive right in and try storytelling and reporting on Roseville news a little differently by using easy-to-read maps and charts and putting together quick posts and polls. But we’ve also tackled stories in the traditional news-reporting fashion.

It’s been a busy year here at Roseville Patch.

We’ve seen tragedies — like the death of a resident, Brent Bell, after he went missing. The community came together to form search parties and help the Bell family. We also shared news of the passing of former Oakmont High School principal Kathleen Sirovy who was well known in the community. More recently, a Roseville mom has been in news headlines because of the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

But this year hasn’t just been full of the tough and tragic stories. The after a fire forced many of its shops to close and remodel and we announced many new businesses that now call Roseville home.

It’s crazy to think that a year ago, Roseville Patch didn’t exist and now we have almost 1,000 followers on both Facebook and Twitter, our newsletter subscriptions continue to climb and more and more people tune in to Roseville Patch for Roseville news. We also have many residents sharing their opinions by blogging on the site and posting their own events and photos to the site.

That’s all great news for Roseville Patch, but (come on, you knew there was going to be a “but” …) I need your help to make the site even better. It’s really a site about you – the reader — and what you want to read about. What makes you come back to the site? What type of coverage most interests you?
