Tower Theatre Opens for Wednesday Night Movies

Stand Out Talent is hosting weekly retro movie screenings in Downtown Roseville.

Tonight, Tower Theatre in Downtown Roseville will open its doors for movie screenings of old favorites.

Playing on the big screen tonight will be “The Princess Bride,” which will kick off this summer's Wednesday night movies. Up next for July will be screenings of “The Bridge on the River Kwai” and “The Goonies.”

In August, you’ll have a say in what plays. People can vote on Facebook and Twitter for movies in each of the three categories: Horror/science fiction, foreign film and drama.

The screenings are hosted by Stand Out Talent, a nonprofit that provides training and productions for the arts community. Last summer, Stand Out Talent claimed Tower Theatre as home and Jennifer Bortz, chief executive officer and creator of Stand Out Talent, said she hoped to help by holding more than plays and musicals. Her vision was to offer screenings of film premiers, partner with local restaurants for dinner and a movie, work with high school audio visual departments for film contests and show independent films.

“We want to be able to host a huge amount of community events,” Bortz told Roseville Patch last year.
