2 Children Killed After Fall Near Shasta Dam: Police
The children fell while at a campground north of the dam, police said.

SHASTA LAKE, CA — Two children died after falling to the Sacramento River near the Shasta Dam, police said.
Emergency personnel responded around 9 a.m. Thursday to a campground north of the dam, where the children had fallen, according to police, who said the victims were recovered within two hours.
“The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office and allied agencies extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims,” police said in a social media post.

Search, rescue and dive teams were involved in the response, according to police. Nonessential traffic was not allowed across the dam during the recovery and water flows were reduced to aid in the effort, police said.
An event scheduled for the area over the weekend will continue, according to police.
