Bank of America Invests in Sacramento Region Non Profits

BY: CP Parmar, President, Bank of America Sacramento.

Although the unemployment rate in the Greater Sacramento region has improved over the past year, disenfranchised communities in the region continue to face significant headwinds when it comes to employment and job training. Not only are individuals experiencing economic hardship due to these barriers, but many sectors are still in need of essential well-trained employees and talent retainment.

To help drive economic opportunity for individuals and families, Bank of America awarded more than $600,000 to 21 Greater Sacramento nonprofits. This first round of grants focuses on workforce development and education to help individuals chart a path to employment and a better economic future, which are fundamental to building lifelong stability.

“Investing in nonprofits addressing issues like job reskilling, food insecurity, shelter, and youth employment is part of our approach to driving economic opportunity and social progress in the Greater Sacramento region,” said CP Parmar, President, Bank of America Sacramento. “This recent philanthropic investment in our community nonprofits is just one way Bank of America deploys capital locally to help remove barriers to economic success and build a more sustainable community.”

The Sierra College Foundation, a local nonprofit that funds underserved students pursuing higher education and prepares them for the workforce, intends to use their grant funding to expand its employer-student engagement with Advanced Manufacturing career fairs, networking events, and student vocational campus groups like the American Welding Society and Robotics Club.

“With the support of partners like Bank of America, we can build upon Sierra College’s efforts to advance equity and inclusion in manufacturing industries,” said Sonbol Aliabadi, Executive Director, Sierra College Foundation.

These grants are the initial round directed to local nonprofits, with more to come throughout the year. Last year, Bank of America awarded $1.8 million to local nonprofits in the Greater Sacramento Region to foster thriving communities.
