CA Shelter Asks For Help After Getting 286 Bunnies

Just before Easter, the Sacramento SCPA said it has a "bunny overload" problem.

SACRAMENTO, CA -- A California animal shelter is calling on the public for donations after it received 286 rabbits over the weekend. In a video shared on Facebook, the Sacramento SCPA said the rabbits are "under protective custody" and couldn't be adopted because of an ongoing investigation.

Folsom Police Department told Fox 40 the rabbits were found at a residence in unsafe living conditions.

"We're not really allowed to tell you much about what's going on," SCPA said in the Facebook video. "What we do know is we need some help. We have so many bunnies."

The SCPA asked the public to donate various items, including litter boxes, Timothy grass/hay, rabbit water bottles and cages. The public was also asked to make monetary donations to help the shelter care for the rabbits.

"We're going to have these bunnies for an undetermined amount of time," said the shelter, which is advertising about the need for help by using a #bunnyoverload2018 hashtag. "We're gonna need a lot of Timothy hay."
