Man Run Over In Parking Lot In Deadly Bar Fight Aftermath: Police

The driver who ran over the 51-year-old was fleeing gunshots from the son of the man who was killed in the crash, police said.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA — A man was run over by a vehicle and died after a bar fight extended into a parking lot in Sacramento County, police said.

Deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to the 4500 block of Auburn Boulevard, where they found 51-year-old Oscar Alferez Sr. lying in the lot under a vehicle and the driver still at the scene, according to police.

Oscar Alferez Jr., 33, had started a fight with the driver in the bar and it had continued outside in the parking lot, where several people had become involved, including Alferez Jr.’s father, Alferez Sr., who threatened the driver with a gun, police said.

During the fight, Alferez Sr. was knocked to the ground and Alferez Jr. picked up the gun and shot at the driver as he attempted to escape in his vehicle, causing the driver to run over Alferez Sr., who died at the scene, according to police.

Alferez Jr. was arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and was taken to county jail, police said, noting he was set to appear in court Tuesday.
