Man Sets His Own House On Fire, Barricades Self Inside As It Burns: Authorities
More than two hours passed before the man was overwhelmed by smoke and fire, and surrendered, authorities said.
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA — A man set his house on fire and barricaded himself inside as it burned in Rancho Cordova, according to authorities.
Emergency personnel responded around 9:30 a.m. Friday to the 3000 block of Ramsgate Way, authorities said. Fire crews and SWAT members worked together to evacuate the neighborhood and protect nearby homes, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
More than two hours passed before the man was overwhelmed by smoke and fire, and surrendered, authorities said, adding he was taken to be evaluated for smoke inhalation and booked into county jail on arson-related charges.

The adjacent homes survived the incident but the house where the blaze originated was completely destroyed, according to authorities, who said Ramsgate Way was closed between Croydon Way and Portsmouth Drive during the response.
