FSC's Sacramento County warming center is helping unhoused people withstand the winter, but needs more supplies donated • Sacramento News & Review (newsreview.com) — Sacramento County and First Step Communities are running a weather respite center on Branch Center Road that shelters up to 100 unhoused residents from this unusually cold, wet December. Staff say they urgently need donated winter clothing, blankets, hygiene items, towels and dog food, which can be dropped off any time at 4000 Branch Center Road in Sacramento.

At lucky Sacramento store, Powerball hopefuls line up for shot at $1.5 billion jackpot (sacbee.com) — Sacramento’s Lichine’s Liquor & Deli in South Land Park is again drawing huge lines as locals chase a $1.5 billion Powerball jackpot at the famously “lucky” store. Regulars say its three big wins in five years make it worth the long wait before Saturday night’s drawing, even with the daunting odds.

Feather Alert issued after Indigenous teen goes missing in Sacramento County (sacbee.com) — Authorities have issued a Feather Alert after 14-year-old Journey Cienfuegos, a citizen of the Susanville Indian Rancheria, went missing near Branch Center and Goethe roads in unincorporated Sacramento County on December 2. The alert now covers Sacramento, Yolo, and Butte counties, and residents are urged to call 911 immediately with any information that could help locate her.

What to know about KCRA's 2026 Blood Drive For Life (kcra.com) — Sacramento donors are invited to Vitalant’s 2026 Blood Drive for Life at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center on Jan. 8-9, with gift cards and Sportsmen’s Expo tickets as perks. The multi-day drive, also held at Sierra College in Rocklin, aims to boost critically needed blood supplies, especially type O and platelets, after the holidays.
