At least 1 person dead after vehicle overturns in South Sacramento crash (kcra.com) — A deadly crash in South Sacramento on Elsie Avenue near Stockton Boulevard left at least one person dead after a vehicle overturned and someone was ejected, according to CHP. Investigators say the ejected person and possibly another pedestrian may have been hit by another vehicle, and they’re still working to confirm exactly what happened.

Holiday spending nears record as tariffs drive prices, some shoppers choosing local as result (abc10.com) — Holiday shoppers in Sacramento are grappling with higher prices driven partly by tariffs, but many are responding by intentionally supporting local small businesses and makers. A UC Davis economist explains how tariffs and interest rates shape costs, while residents at a Tahoe Elementary School market describe choosing neighborhood vendors over big online retailers to keep money circulating in the community.

Alonzo Carter to be named Sacramento State's next head football coach, sources say (kcra.com) — Sacramento State is set to hire Alonzo Carter as its next head football coach, with the deal expected to be finalized today, according to sources. The Oakland native brings decades of Bay Area coaching experience and will take over a Hornets team coming off a 7-5 season after Brennan Marion departed for Colorado.
   

4. Leader of Newsom's Cal Volunteers gives update on state push to empower young men (kcra.com) — From Sacramento, state service chief Josh Fryday says nearly 1,000 men have joined Gov. Newsom’s new mentorship push to support young men and boys across California. The Cal Volunteers-led effort aims for 10,000 mentors, even as questions loom about funding and the program’s future once Newsom terms out and Fryday runs for lieutenant governor.
