Sacramento Police Department: Homicide Investigation And Arrest - 1400 Block Of 30th Street

On February 21, 2022 shortly after 6 a.m., Sacramento Police Department patrol officers responded to the 1400 block of 30th Street for a report of a fire in a room at a motel. Officers received additional information that a man had been seen leaving that particular room. The Sacramento Fire Department responded and extinguished a small fire inside the room while locating a deceased female adult.

A short time later, additional officers responded to the area of 28th Street and L Street for a report of a man who was in possession of a sledgehammer and swinging it at passing vehicles. Responding officers were able to safely detain that subject. During a preliminary investigation, officers developed information that the man who was detained was related to the hotel room where the fire occurred.

Due to the circumstances of the incident, homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation. Detectives and crime scene investigators processed the scene and conducted a thorough canvass of the area for witnesses and additional information. Detectives located evidence indicating the detained male had killed the female found in the motel room.

The suspect will later be booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for homicide. This investigation is still in its early stages and the exact circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation however detectives believe that there are no outstanding suspects.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim after next of kin have been notified.
