Here are three of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. San Diego Border Patrol agents apprehended migrants from Mexico, Central America, Venezuela, Brazil, and Romania. Agents said that 1,500 migrants were stopped this past weekend.   2. San Diego Habitat for Humanity is offering 10 affordable homes in Escondido to qualified buyers. The 1,250-square-foot duplex-style homes have three bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and attached garages. “Many hardworking families in San Diego County are living paycheck to paycheck in substandard and overcrowded housing. San Diego Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that everyone in our region should have a safe, healthy home they can afford,” said Ellen Immergut, director of communications.   3. Local Walmart pharmacies in San Diego County are holding a ‘Wellness Day’ on Saturday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. They will offer free blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol, and glucose screenings, along with low-cost immunizations.   • San Diego Humane Society: Who would do such a thing! A stray dog was found in a Webster neighborhood with a chain embedded in his neck, causing pain and open wounds. Our Humane Law Enforcement team needs your help in this felony animal cruelty investigation. The dog, a 4-year-old Dogue De Bordeuax, was found in early July.
