- San Diego County has a plan to fight opioid addiction, and $100 million is earmarked to implement that plan. The funds became available through settlement lawsuits against drug manufacturers. The plan will fund various medically assisted treatments, housing and drug disposal, as well as public information systems. With 800 fentanyl-related deaths here in San Diego, this plan cannot be implemented soon enough. (Fox 5 San Diego)
- The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the San Diego Regional Firefighter Memorial at Waterfront Park to honor our firefighters who died in the line of duty. The board also approved using $10,000 from Supervisor Fletcher’s Community Enhancement Program budget for the planning and for a concept design. The county agreed to create the San Diego Regional Firefighter Foundation to raise funds for the project. The firefighter memorial would be of similar size as the memorial for law enforcement, which is also located at the Waterfront Park. (Times of San Diego)
- It’s the traditional day to honor the dead, to create altars, to make offerings, and to commune with loved ones who have passed. It's called Día de los Muertos, and it officially takes place on Nov. 1. Here in San Diego, the festivities include numerous events starting in mid-October. Interested in attending this traditional celebration? There are events in Sherman Heights, Oceanside, Chula Vista, City Heights, Encinitas and Old Town. Read on for more information: (SanDiego.org)
