SAN DIEGO, CA — The San Diego Zoo Safari Park recently celebrated the births of two endangered horses.

Safari Park visitors may spot the horses on wildlife safaris in the Asian Plains field habitat.
The foals are an essential contribution to global populations of this endangered species, which was declared extinct in native habitats in the 1980s, according to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, which operates the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

The Safari Park is a participant in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' Species Survival Plan Program for Przewalski's horses and has welcomed 49 foals.
The herd will likely show a lot of interest in their new members, but will watch from a distance until introductions are facilitated by Nikki and Gal, according to San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. The park's herd also includes Kurt and Ollie, the first two cloned Przewalski's horses.
