SAN DIEGO, CA — Macy's is closing two stores in San Diego County, the department store chain announced Friday.

Macy's is shuttering several dozen stores as part of a previously announced turnaround plan to save the company. Last year, the retailer announced it would close approximately 150 underperforming stores by 2026, while keeping about 350 locations. The 66 store closures revealed Friday are included in the plan but the locations had not been previously announced.

The store closures include nine locations in California and two in the San Diego region. The San Diego area stores that will close are the Otay Ranch Town Center location at 2015 Birch Road, Suite 2, in Chula Vista and the Mission Valley Home location at 1555 Camino De La Reina in San Diego.

"Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy's stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service," Tony Spring, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy's, Inc., said in a statement.

The announcement comes a day after Kohl's announced the company would close 27 underperforming stores by April, including two stores in San Diego County.
