2 San Diego Area Cities Rank Among Top 20 Safest In California: Report

SafeWise released its 2025 Safest Cities report. See where cities in San Diego County ranked on the list.

SAN DIEGO, CA — Two cities in San Diego County rank among the top 20 safest cities in California, according to a new report from Safewise.

SafeWise, a security product review platform, looked at FBI crime statistics for cities in the Golden State to compile its 11th annual Safest Cities report. A total of 153 cities met the criteria to be considered for ranking.

Rancho Santa Margarita in Orange County ranked as the safest city in California for the second year in a row. Danville in the San Francisco Bay Area ranked second, followed by Aliso Viejo, also in Orange County.

In the San Diego area, two cities made the rankings. Poway ranked 12th and San Marcos ranked 13th. Both cities saw declines in property crime and violent crime rates, according to the report.

All the safest cities reported fewer than 2.2 violent crimes per 1,000 people.
