3 CA Beaches Named Among Best In U.S.: Report

CALIFORNIA — Planning a spring break getaway or summer vacation? Californians don't have to go far to enjoy some of the best beaches in the country.

Three Golden State beaches were named among the "Best of the Best Beaches" in the U.S., according to a new report from Tripadvisor.

La Jolla Cove in La Jolla ranked as the fourth-best beach in America. The beach is a great spot for diving, picnics, swimming and wildlife viewing, according to the travel site.

The list included three California beaches. In addition to La Jolla Cove, Santa Monica State Beach in Santa Monica ranked 18th and Coronado Beach in Coronado ranked 23rd.

Siesta Beach in Siesta Key, Florida, was named the best beach in the U.S. due to its beachfront stays, clear waters, powder sand and seashells.

Tripadvisor also ranked the best beaches in the world. Elafonissi Beach in Greece topped the list. Located on the southwest coast of Crete, the remote beach is known for its pink sand and crystal-clear waters.

Siesta Beach ranked fourth in the world and was the only beach in the country to make the top 10.

"Whether it's strolling the beautiful pink sand beaches of our world winner, Elafonissi beach, in Greece, experiencing breathtaking vistas in Indonesia, whale watching in Hawaii or diving in magical bioluminescent waters in Thailand — there really is something for everyone," Kristen Dalton, president of Tripadvisor, said in a news release. "This year's lists span an incredible six continents and 50 countries with over 100 of the very best beaches showcasing the eclectic mix of coastal spots across the world."

The Travelers' Choice Awards Best of the Best Beaches honor travelers' favorite beaches worldwide, based on the quality and quantity of global reviews and ratings on Tripadvisor for beaches, gathered over the 12-month period from Nov. 30, 2023 to Dec. 1, 2024.
