- It was a great opportunity to dispose of unwanted firearms. On Sunday, more than 375 unwanted firearms were exchanged for gift💵cards at the Guns for Gift Cards event in the Vista Traffic Court parking lot. The event was hosted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. County residents received a $100 gift card for handguns, rifles, and shotguns. For assault weapons, the gift cards were worth $200. After processing for theft or crime, the remaining weapons will be destroyed. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
- Have you been wondering whatever happened to those green bins we were promised? According to the State of California mandate, all Californians were expected to compost their food waste to help California eliminate harmful greenhouse gases. However, there was no funding attached to the mandate. This left cities and towns scrambling to find ways to pay for additional personnel and equipment needed to fund the organics♻️recycling program under SB1383. Locally, cities raised waste collection rates up to 25 percent to cover some costs. Meanwhile, the California League of Cities asked the state to designate $180 million to help pay for the new program. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Voice of San Diego)
- There are tiny, underwater sea creatures nibbling the feet of bathers in Mission Bay. No, it’s not the fish spa🐠treatment. It is a natural phenomenon, and it hurts. "It was painful! I was like uh! I jumped out of the water, and this was so shocking. I had blood all over my foot and in between my toes," said Tara Savage. According to professor of Scripps Institution of Oceanography Ryan Hechinger, "They are called excirolana chilto." Hechinger explained, "They're nothing bad. They are part of the natural ecosystem. What use are they? They eat dead fish, so it doesn’t stink like dead fish in the water." What should you do if these sea creatures bother you: Get out of the water!
