- Yes, there is pain at the pump, but relief may come soon. Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed that residents should receive $400 debit cards as relief for the highest gas prices ever. Under the proposal, residents would receive a card for each registered vehicle they own, limited to two vehicles. In addition, the proposal would provide grants to transit agencies to offer free rides for three months and would offer other consideration to diesel users. - If you live in one of the targeted areas, you may notice a difference in your electric bill. The change would come as a result of the San Diego Community Partnership energy purchases. The SDCP has engaged solar and wind farms to offer its customers alternate forms of renewable energy. "We only control the electricity generation piece of that bill, which is maybe a quarter of your bill total," said SDCP Chief Operating Officer Cody Hooven. "In that piece that we control, our rates are about 2 percent cheaper this year (compared to SDG&E rates). But they're also about 19 percent cleaner." If you are interested in preserving the environment, this would be the way to go. On the other hand, customers will be able opt out of SDCP and continue to purchase electricity from SDG&E, if they wish. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (KPBS)
