Here are the top stories in San Diego today:
- There is a nationwide shortage of EMS professionals, and it has hit San Diego hard. Right now, Falck, the City of San Diego's contracted 911 company, is offering a $50K bonus for paramedics who join Falck to work here. In addition, employees who refer new full-time paramedics will be paid a $10K bonus. Falck is the largest provider of emergency services in the world. (Fox 5 San Diego)
- The San Diego Unified School District has alerted parents that it has been a victim of a cybersecurity breach. Officials directed staff to change their passwords, as they continued to change passwords for all student accounts. A team of cybersecurity experts and law enforcement personnel have been investigating the incident. Federal agencies have warned school districts that criminal ransomware groups have been active in recent months and will probably continue throughout the school year. (NBC San Diego)
- Everyone loves those beautiful Christmas lights gracing residences this time of year, but the cost of decorating with incandescent light bulbs can be expensive. Consider switching to LEDs to save money and help the planet. While LEDs may be more expensive at first, they will last 10 times longer, and they will cut down on electric bills by about 85 percent or more. Get a timer so you don’t waste energy during the day. Use reflective materials to amp up the lights you are using. Enjoy the holidays without breaking your budget. (NBC San Diego)
