SAN DIEGO, CA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect more rain as a second storm moves through the region and a third storm system is predicted later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

"Isolated light showers will continue this morning along and west of the mountains. A weaker Pacific storm will move through the area this afternoon through Tuesday evening, bringing widespread rain and mountain snowfall for areas above 5,000 feet," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday. "Isolated showers continue into Wednesday with moisture wrapping around the north side of the low-pressure system. A third system may bring additional by late Thursday or Friday, though details with this system still remain uncertain."
In other news, the body of a 7-year-old girl was recovered after she was swept into the ocean and her father died trying to save her. Also, a man was shot while lying in bed; four people were injured after a car crashed into a home; four people were killed and another four were injured after a panga-style boat capsized; eight people were injured when a home exploded; and two women were fatally shot in a domestic violence attack.

Plus, California schools raised graduation rates and academic achievement and improved college and career readiness last school year, according to the California School Dashboard. The dashboard, released by the California Department of Education, uses student data to measure academic performance, chronic absenteeism, college and career readiness, English learner progress and graduation and suspension rates.
