9-Day-Old Lilac Fire Now 100% Contained
After destroying 157 homes, the San Diego County wildfire is now contained.

SAN DIEGO COUNTY, CA -- After destroying 157 homes, the nine-day-old Lilac Fire in northern San Diego County was 100 percent contained as of Saturday morning.
The fire that burned 4,100 acres forced the evacuation of thousands of people and killed dozens of race horses. An estimated 64 homes were damaged in addition to those that were destroyed, Cal Fire said.
The fast-growing fire, which sparked in Bonsall, reached the edge of Oceanside and forced the evacuation of nearby communities.

Fire officials said it was finally contained at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
The Lilac Fire was one of many fires to spark in recent weeks in Southern California. As of Saturday, firefighters continued to battle the Thomas Fire in Ventura County where one firefighter and one Ventura resident died. That fire, which stands at 256,000 acres, was only 35 percent contained as of Friday night.
