- How to prevent homelessness? Stop it before it starts! That's the thinking of county officials who propose an analytics policy and app-based tool to help connect unsheltered San Diegans to services. Persons at risk would be evaluated and offered support to keep them housed. If the board approves the proposal, the county's chief administrative officer will have 180 days to develop an analytics plan, which will also need board approval. (NBC San Diego)
- The flu season has begun and is spreading fast and furious. Our lowered immune systems after our COVID-19 isolation are only making matters worse. With the holidays approaching, health officials fear there will be a quick spread of the disease due to unmasked interactions among families and friends. The best advice is to get your flu shot now. It takes two weeks for the vaccine to become effective in the body. Don't have insurance? Contact the County's Health & Human Services Agency for further details. (San Diego County Government)
- Repurpose retired EV batteries. Smartville Inc. of Miramar will create a "second life" for retired batteries. They package the batteries and place them next to their building. Excess solar energy from solar panels on their roof is then stored in the batteries. Evan Bierman, Smartville’s COO, said the company's goal is "To be able to better use second life batteries, reduce emissions, and bring a cleaner future along with U.S. domestic manufacturing to the United States and to San Diego.” Best thing about this system is that it puts less stress on the energy grid! (CBS News 8)
- In a special event to honor the military, Coronado Rotary President LuAnn Miller met with Captain "Woody" Clemons and Captain "Newt" McKissock to reward them for their service and leadership. “It’s always special to recognize members of the military that we respect and that keep our country safe. We honor you both for your outstanding service to your country and for being such great neighbors to our community.” (Coronado Times Newspaper)
