Here are the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. If you've always wanted to serve on a jury, you might want to apply for the San Diego County Grand Jury. Eligible residents need to apply by Jan. 20, 2023. This grand jury will work six hours per day, four days a week, from July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024, at the Grand Jury office in downtown San Diego. Interested? Call 619-450-7272 or download an application at sdcounty.ca.gov/grandjury. (ABC 10 News San Diego KGTV)
  2. In a new treatment for low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer (LG-UTUC), a urinary tract cancer, UCSD health physicians are now treating patients with Jelmyto, a Food & Drug Administration-approved drug. The drug combines mitomycin and hydrogel, which solidifies and stays inside the body for four to six hours. This protocol is simpler than past treatments and may prevent having to do kidney dialysis and transplant. (UCSD Guardian)
  3. Child exploitation cases have increased by 300% since 2019, and it's happening right here in San Diego. It’s a whole new playground out there, with predators chatting up kids on video games and grooming them with exchange credits. They develop relationships with kids and convince them to switch to platforms such as Discord, where they lure kids in with sexually explicit talk and pictures. “The predators are master manipulators,” said Sgt. Garrick Nugent, a San Diego Police Department Detective. If you have questions or suspicions, contact the SDICAC Task Force at 858‑715‑7100. (CBS News 8)
  4. If you have long COVID, you may have had difficulty getting your doctor to believe you have an illness. There is no test for long COVID, but now the CDC recognizes the condition as an illness. Symptoms may include: exhaustion, brain fog, heart palpitations and difficulty breathing. If you are experiencing these symptoms, talk to your doctor, or get support from a long-COVID clinic, or at a university medical center. (NBC San Diego)
