Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. During this shortage, some stores are hiking up prices on baby formula. The San Diego County District Attorney’s office said it will pursue criminal charges against stores that price gouge on the price of baby formula. "We want county residents to know that we stand ready to protect their consumer rights under the law, and we won't let people cash in by taking advantage of families in need," San Diego County District Attorney District Attorney Summer Stephan said. "We take violations related to price gouging very seriously and encourage consumers to report suspected price hikes that they believe may be illegal." 2. Enjoy yourself at ‘Pride By The Beach 2022’ in Oceanside on June 11. "This is the 15th Pride celebration and will be in-person after a two-year hiatus in downtown Oceanside. This year’s theme is 'Together' which recognizes the excitement and need for the LGBTQ community to gather in celebration and mutual aid. The festival is the largest free, family-friendly, alcohol and tobacco-free event of its kind in the region." To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  3. The heat is on! So, if you need a place to cool off, check out the San Diego County Cool Zones. Need transportation to a Cool Zone location? Call 211 for assistance. A ride can be provided to you as well, free of charge. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)

Are you a San Diego resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where San Diego Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
