Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. Did you see it? The streak of light across the San Diego sky was seen in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside County at around 10 p.m. on Friday evening. According to the American Meteor Society, the dazzling sight was a fireball, a meteor that burns particularly bright after entering the Earth’s atmosphere. According to Mike Hankey, an observer with the Meteor Society, modeling suggests that the fireball streaked south along the coast. He said the fireball was a random occurrence with no known association to any meteor shower. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  2. For 31 days straight, San Diego County gas prices have dropped. With average prices down to $5.90, its lowest amount since May 13. “Both oil prices and Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have dropped significantly because of concerns about future demand,” said Doug Shupe, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s corporate communications manager. “If current trends continue, local gas prices are likely to drop even more significantly.” To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 3. We live in a paradise! With lovely, mild breezes, and beautiful beaches, San Diego is a perfect location for outdoor dining. "Outdoor dining played a major role in buoying the restaurant industry over the last few years, and restaurants took note – whether adding, expanding, or elevating their offerings," Susan Lee, chief growth officer for OpenTable said in a news release. "Offering outdoor dining is now a key part of restaurants' business, and we're happy to see that diners continue to embrace it." OpenTable has listed nine San Diego restaurants among its 100 best restaurants for outdoor dining in the U.S. The nine eateries from locations in Carlsbad in the north, Del Mar and Cardiff by the Sea in the center-west, and Harbor Island, Ocean Beach, and downtown in the Gaslamp in the south.
