Crews Halt Brush Fire On Marine Corps Air Station Miramar
Crews aboard two water-dropping helicopters and multiple fire engines worked to extinguish the flames.
SAN DIEGO, CA — Crews halted a brush fire Monday afternoon on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
The fire was reported at 2:22 p.m. on the grounds of the base, near the intersection of Kearny Villa Road and Miramar Way, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Crews aboard two water-dropping helicopters and multiple fire engines worked to extinguish the flames. As of shortly before 4 p.m., the blaze had burned about a dozen acres on MCAS Miramar property, but caused no reported structural damage or injuries, according to the department.

The fire sparked just before a new red flag warning goes into effect in parts of San Diego County. A red flag warning and wind advisory went into effect at 4 p.m. Monday and runs through 6 p.m. Wednesday for the county's mountains and valleys, according to the National Weather Service.
Conditions will remain very dry, even in the coastal areas, according to the NWS. Northeast winds from 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts up to 55 mph along and below the coastal slopes of the mountains.

"If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for very rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior," forecasters said.
