OTAY MESA, CA — Firefighters doused a vegetation fire in a rural area of San Diego County Sunday that initially had the potential to reach 200 acres, authorities said.
The fire was reported around 2:10 p.m. Saturday within the Bureau of Land Management Otay Wilderness area, just east of Otay Mesa, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
A public information officer with the agency told City News Service on Saturday that no evacuation orders were issued and there were no threats to any structures, but officials said the blaze had the potential to grow to 200 acres.

The fire's forward progress was stopped by Sunday, while numerous firefighting air tankers from throughout the state were flying fire suppression missions as conditions allowed. A total of seven personnel were assigned to the fire, including two engines one other supporting agency, officials said.
The San Diego Fire Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Land Management were assisting in the effort.

At 12:57 a.m. Sunday, Cal Fire San Diego posted that full containment was achieved and all resources were being released. The fire burned 98 acres.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
