Here are five of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. It’s a no-brainer. Locating housing near transit stations makes perfect sense. Now, there is a plan underway to redevelop Carlsbad Poinsettia and Carlsbad Village Coaster Stations, as well as Oceanside and Escondido Transit Centers. These projects would create 2,000 new housing units, including many affordable units, in North County. The projects will take several years to complete. (CBS News 8)
  2. Some see it as an extreme move. Others believe it is a kindness. Moving homeless people to CARE Courts is an innovative approach to getting some homeless people off the streets and into the care they need. Under the plan, family members, first responders and behavioral health workers could petition the court to treat those with mental health challenges. (NBC San Diego)
  3. People were shocked! A tow truck driver towed away a car that two mothers and their children had been living in, leaving them on the street, homeless. Now the city is looking for a better solution. Rather than contributing to street homelessness, the city may revise the policy that hits low-income San Diegans the hardest. (Voice of San Diego)
  4. Sick? Stay home. More than 10,000+ flu cases have occurred this season so far (400 more than last year). More than 298 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. RSV has infected children in large numbers. Whopping cough is on the rise, as well. Doctors urge people to stay at home if they are sick. Businesses need to realize that parents need to stay home with sick kids. (NBC San Diego)
  5. We may not have snow, but we do have holiday spirit! So many events are scheduled for you to enjoy this holiday season. Here are some of the festivities planned for you: (NBC San Diego)
