  1. Right now, California does not have an adequate mental health care response system. Now, California Governor Gavin Newsom wants to have a central location to provide community assistance, recovery, and empowerment. Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, San Diego County Board of Supervisor, and Mayor Todd Gloria, of the City of San Diego, are on board with this plan. Under the proposed Senate Bill 1338, first responders, service providers, health care professionals, or family members would have the power to refer a person to CARE Court. That person would then be evaluated by a licensed behavioral health👩‍⚕️professional. Further services may also be provided. CARE Court is a voluntary program, which offers a path to assistance and a way to avoid conservatorship. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  2. Like many businesses in San Diego, the cruise🚢industry is facing a staffing crisis. To the chagrin of many who had planned to cruise on Princess Cruises, the line has now cancelled 11 cruises leaving from San Diego. The cruise line issued a statement explaining the situation: "Over the past year we have operated hundreds of cruises thanks to the tens of thousands of our Princess team members that have rejoined our fleet to deliver exceptional Princess vacations. However, like others in the global travel industry, we have experienced some labor challenges." Local businesses, such as hotels and eateries, are also adversely affected by the loss of business brought in by the cruise line. Of course, those planning to travel on the canceled cruises are extremely disappointed. If your cruise was canceled, check you cruise line for information on how to obtain a refund. 3. Problems with your rental🏢unit? Health hazards, water issues, rodent infestation, non-working smoke alarms, and mold growth are issues subject to public codes. Tenants may report violations to the City of San Diego Code Enforcement Department. If you live in the City of San Diego, find out how to file a complaint. 4. Dozens of beagles🐶🐶🐶will be coming to Gillespie Field in El Cajon on August 31. They have lived in cages all their lives. They have never had a home. They have been used for pharmaceutical research. They have now been rescued, and they will be prepared, and put up for adoption here in San Diego. Wondering if a beagle would be right for you? "Beagles are awesome dogs, that's why our very own Charles Shultz in California made the beagle America's dog with Snoopy, they're a great dog." said San Diego Humane Society President and CEO Gary Weitzman, a veterinarian. Check out these beagles and give one your love and its forever home. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (KPBS)

  • San Diego Police🚨Department: "It’s #NationalDogDay, and our tails are wagging with excitement! Our K9 unit started in 1984; since then, we’ve worked around the clock to ensure everyone is safe. Our dogs are used for a variety of reasons. We have dogs trained in narcotics detection, explosive material detection, tracking, and apprehension. Did you know that in 2020 our K9 team responded to over 21,000 radio calls in San Diego?" (San Diego Police Department via Facebook)
  • San Diego Humane Society: "Go ahead, take a nice long moment to behold this piggy's🐖 cute little trot! Christopher was in pretty poor shape when our humane officers found him, abandoned in a back yard. Despite being emaciated and having horribly overgrown hooves, Christopher was incredibly sweet from the start. The medical team at our Escondido Campus are all positively smitten with this A+ patient who is always happy to see them for his weekly weight check and trot around campus. Make Christopher (830723) part of your farm family today!" (San Diego Humane Society via Facebook)
  • San Diego Botanic🌻Garden: "Not every bamboo plant is thirsty and not every bamboo plant spreads. Join us at San Diego Botanic Garden for a bamboo-filled this weekend on August 27 & 28. On both days, the Southern California Chapter of the American Bamboo Society (ABS) and Bambutique will join our vendors and be selling bamboo plants from 9am-4pm." • San Diego Central Library: "Kids grow SO quickly. Not too long ago, this little patron was carried in with his book bags. Now, Richard is picking, and choosing his own books📚to take home! Whether you're creeping, walking or going on wheels, San Diego Public Library is here for you every step of the way! We're proud to team up Book Rich Environments and the San Diego Housing Commission in order to foster a love of literacy for children 0-18 and to build up their book collection at home."
