  1. We didn’t think it could happen here — but it did! Two men went on a carjacking spree from City Heights to Carmel Mountain. Victims told police that they were held at gunpoint. One of the victims told police that he thwarted the attempt to take his car by driving away to safety. However, he struck one of the carjackers, leaving him with unknown injuries. Police are checking to see whether all the different carjackings were related. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC 7 San Diego)
  2. Caltrans has announced that its maintenance crews will be working on the roads again. Interstate 805 (I-805) southbound on-ramp will be closed Thursday, Sept. 22 – Monday, Oct. 3 from 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Pavement will be rehabilitated at that time. Detours for this closure are: Take NB I-805 to the Main Street off-ramp, turn left and proceed on to the SB I-805 on-ramp from Main Street. Travelers can get real-time traffic information, lane and road closures due to construction and maintenance activities, and more, go to http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 3. The scammers are out there scheming again! Pretending to be sheriff’s deputies, scammers are demanding that you report to the sheriff’s office in Kearny Mesa to resolve a legal issue. They say that ‘the issue will escalate into a criminal matter’ if you fail to comply and warn you ‘not to tell anyone.’ It is important for you to know that deputies never call demanding money or threatening jail time. Even if the caller-ID appears to show a call coming from a sheriff’s station, jail, or court office, it could be a ‘spoof.’ Protect yourself against scammers. Don’t pick up the phone unless you know the caller. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  4. The plan is to move the train tracks from the eroding bluffs in Del Mar into an underground tunnel. Now, with a $300 million state grant, the San Diego Association of Governments can plan the 80-ft. underground tunnel which would run inland for almost a mile. The total price tag for the project is $3 billion. Completion is slated for 2035. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Voice of San Diego)
  5. The 'Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational' was held in La Jolla Shores this past August. A local surfer put one of his surf boards up for auction and more than $60,000 was raised in the fight against cancer. The surfer, JoJo Roper, known as a surfer who rides waves taller than five-story buildings, commented 'We just painted everybody's hands to be part of it, and to surf with all these Patients, Doctors, and Nurses... To be part of the Big Wave journey. Going to this event since I was a little kid and knowing it benefits Cancer research, it's been something special to me since I was a little kid,' Roper said. 'It started auctioning off at $10,000, $12k, $15k, I'm in tears. That board raised $61,000 for cancer research, I was in tears, I was so happy, it was amazing.'
