Here are four of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Teachers already face an uphill battle against cheating in classrooms. Now, with ChatGPT, the new artificial intelligence app, students can create essays, as well as get answers to math or science problems. Is this cheating? Three students at Torrey Pines High School feel it gives an unfair advantage to those students who use it. While schools here in San Diego have banned its use right now, San Dieguito School District is studying ways in which the app may be useful as a technological advancement to improve speed. (CBS News 8)
  2. The county unanimously approved the creation of a Health and Human Services Agency department to focus on helping children and families. Called the Child and Family Well-Being department, it will bring together First 5 San Diego, Child Welfare Services and other Health and Human Services Agency departments to deliver prevention and safeguarding services to families in need. The groups will work together to reduce trauma, overcome adverse childhood experiences and maltreatment, and work toward racial equity. (Patch)
  3. The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a proposal to expand and enhance senior services as part of San Diego’s Aging Roadmap. After an evaluation of county senior centers, agencies will work to improve access to self-sufficiency programs, such as food assistance programs. In addition, existing facilities will be reviewed as to the availability of senior activities. (Times of San Diego)
  4. Bring some sweetness into your life with a fluffy ball of love and affection! Sweet dogs are now available at San Diego shelters, waiting for their forever homes. Prefer a feline? Many lovable cats are available too. Not sure if you're able to care for a pet year-round? Then take this opportunity to foster a pet for a period of time.
