Here are three of the top stories today in San Diego:
- Leaders of the Port of San Diego and City of Chula Vista gathered to break ground on the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. "The Chula Vista Bayfront is the defining project of a generation for the South Bay. We are finally realizing the fulfillment of all the tireless effort that hundreds if not thousands of people have invested in this project over the past few decades," said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. "I am beyond proud and honored to be here to celebrate the start of construction on the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center." The project, which will open in 2025, will create 3,580 jobs during construction, will have an economic impact of half-a-billion dollars each year, and will produce 4,000 permanent jobs. - Forty-three beagles, recently rescued from a breeding facility, are currently in foster care here in San Diego. These dogs are at the Helen Woodward Animal Center learning how to be dogs for the first time. “We typically have a very loud van that’s coming in full of barking dogs, just dogs who are very, very loud and excited,” said Petruzzelli. "When this intake came in, they were all quiet. They were as quiet as could be, all 43 of them. They’ve never known not to be scared.” After some socialization, the beagles will be available for adoption this week. HWAC is accepting donations on their website, as well as new foster families.
