Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:

  1. The County of San Diego is moving forward with its sustainability initiatives and decarbonization goals. Supervisors have approved a plan to plant more🌳trees, to support conversion to☀️solar, and to reduce carbon🚗emissions. Murtaza Baxamusa, regional sustainability program manager, said that the San Diego region "is uniquely positioned to take a leadership role on decarbonization." Rebeca Appel, county group program manager, said that instead of a forcible mandate, the Playbook will offer options and guidance. "Our global climate is changing, and the effects are being felt every day," she added. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  2. This weekend all available CHP🚨officers will be out there scouting for DUI offenders. "Alcohol- and drug-impaired driving continues to be a leading cause of traffic fatalities and injuries in California, and the moment an impaired driver gets behind the wheel, they put themselves and every other person on the road in great danger," CHP Commissioner Amanda Ray said. The efforts coincide with the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" nationwide campaign. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  3. Her child was being bullied at school. She wanted to find a way to turn the situation around. So, this San Diego mom created “Baffle Away Bullying!” The strategy is simple and allows the child who is being bullied to stand up to the bullying in a positive way😮‍💨. Now, a family, or a classroom teacher, can access the program on a video. Find out how. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  4. Father Joe’s Villages received a $548,000 grant from the State of California to keep people and their pets🙍‍♂️+ 🐕 together in shelters. "Most pet owners would do whatever it takes to care for, protect and keep their animal because pets are family," said Jesse Casement, division director of client services at Father Joe's Villages. "In order to truly assist our clients, it is absolutely crucial that we welcome their entire family — including those members with fur, feathers, shells, or scales into our shelter facilities." With their pets safely at the shelter with them, homeless clients are more likely to seek services and move to end their homelessness. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link.
