SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.

But before we jump into Southern California's top stories, residents should expect cooler weather and a chance of showers this week, according to the National Weather Service.

"Little change in temperatures today followed by more significant cooling Tuesday through Friday. By Friday, high temperatures will be 10-20 degrees below normal," NWS San Diego forecasters wrote Monday.

"The marine layer will deepen through the week, filling in across the coastal basin by Wednesday. Patchy drizzle is possible west of the mountains each morning Tuesday through Thursday, followed by a 15-40 percent chance of precipitation Thursday night through early Saturday. Warmer and drier early next week."

In other news, a man was arrested after threatening to bomb Coachella Music & Arts Festival; a mother was accused of drowning her 7-year-old daughter in a bathtub; a suspect was in custody after five people were stabbed; and police were searching for the owner of a pit bull that fatally attacked a toy poodle dog.

Also, a concerning number of gray whales that migrate along the coast of California are dying. At least 80 whales have died since the start of the year in Mexico, and three whales recently died in San Francisco Bay. Another dead whale washed ashore over the weekend in Southern California.
