SAN DIEGO, CA — The U.S. Coast Guard's San Diego sector stopped a boat carrying seven migrants off the coast of Orange County, officials announced Monday.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sockeye intercepted the 24-foot cabin vessel around 6:30 p.m. Friday about 2 miles south of Dana Point Harbor, according to the Coast Guard. The adults, who all claimed Mexican nationality, were suspected of trying to enter the U.S. illegally.

Crew members aboard the Sockeye detained all seven people and towed the vessel to the Orange County Sheriff's Dock, where they were transferred to another Department of Homeland Security agency for further investigation.
