  1. It’s back! Comic-Con 2022 will welcome 135,000 ticket holders to the Gaslamp and San Diego Convention Center. "This is our first full-fledged Comic-Con. There will be throngs of people from all over the country and all over the world," said David Glanzer, spokesperson for Comic-Con. Attendees are required to wear masks. Also, attendees must show proof of vaccination, or proof of negative COVID-19 test taken with the last 72 hours. Be prepared! Come and enjoy! 2. Since the pandemic changed our world, child care has been hard to find. “San Diegans are in dire need of child care and, since the city has the ability to house these services, we believe it’s important we get involved,” said Lucy Contreras, deputy director in the city’s Department of Real Estate and Airport Management. “This Request for Information is essential in making sure we understand what is needed to ensure potential future child care operators will create practical and safe facilities.” Anyone interested in submitting a response to the RFI must register at sandiego.gov/purchasing/bids-contracts/vendorreg To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. 3. California Fish and Wildlife rescued three orphaned bear cubs from mountain areas in California. "Typically, the cubs would stay with their mother for about two years," said Andy Blue, campus director of San Diego Humane Society's Ramona Wildlife Center. "Cubs can be weaned at 6 to 8 months but remain with their mother to learn to hunt and forage. Without their mother to protect them, young cubs of this size can be predated by other bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and other predators. At the Ramona Wildlife Center, the Project Wildlife team will provide a safe environment where the cubs can practice their natural skills and get the proper nutrition they need to grow. Eventually, the cubs will be released back into the wild. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)

  • Feeding San Diego: This is one family's story. Leo, Flora, and their three kids came to a recent distribution with our partner Support The Enlisted Project (STEP). Leo shared "I'm a retired marine. We live in Menifee. It was hard for me to accept help. I'm a 100 percent disabled vet, and it's hard for me to get a job because I'm either in pain or have three to five appointments at the VA every week. For me, I'm living off my little bit of pension and disability, and even with that, we're crunching everything. Energy prices are high, water, everything, and you have a family to feed. Before I was hard-headed in seeking help, but now we do need it because everything is just so expensive." Leo thanks the donors that help his family through Feeding San Diego. (Feeding San Diego via Facebook)
  • San Diego County Library: San Diego County youth and young adults ages 5-25 can join this year’s Youth Challenge: Our Health Deserves a Boost(er)!
