Here are four of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. Beware! Construction at the airport is likely to cause delays and stress this holiday season. Work on Terminal 1 has been going on for over a year, and parking is limited. The Transportation Security Administration expects that the number of people traveling, picking up, and dropping off will also cause delays. So, arrive early! Phase one of Terminal One will open in 2025, while the second phase will be completed in 2027. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  2. The City of San Diego will begin distribution of green compost bins in January. Food scraps and paper products that have touched food, as well grass and garden clippings, will need to be placed into the new green bins to be picked up and turned into compost. This is our opportunity to help save the planet by reducing methane gas levels in our air. Information is being rolled out now, with bins due to arrive at homes beginning in January. (NBC San Diego)
  3. San Diego Unified School District filed a security breach letter with the attorney general’s office, stating that a security breach occurred Oct. 25, 2022. Personnel records, including current and former employee names, Social Security numbers, health plan information, and direct deposit information were all breached. Employees were finally notified five weeks later. The district reported that it has since "implemented additional security measures to enhance our existing cybersecurity protocol." (NBC San Diego)
  4. Blood supplies are currently at extremely low levels. Supplies of Type O blood will last only a day or two. An urgent request for blood donors was issued here in San Diego. In addition, those with Type O-negative blood are urged to donate, as that blood type is universally compatible and can save lives in an emergency when a person’s blood type is unknown. However, all blood types are welcome! Open your heart and become a blood donor! (Patch)
