Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:

- After a County Board of Supervisors vote, the County can now leverage millions of dollars in state funding for the development of affordable housing. The County has provided funds to build housing for seniors, families, veterans, as well as those experiencing homelessness. It is part of the County’s plan to create 10,000 units by 2030 under its framework for ending homelessness. (County News Center)
- The California Coastal Commission agreed to a conversion of a Navy Pier into a public park at the North Embarcadero location. The Freedom Park project is a venture of the Port of San Diego and the USS Midway Museum. Structural improvements will be made to the pier, followed by construction of the park, scheduled to open in 2028. The park will be a tribute to the service and sacrifices of our military veterans. (NBC San Diego)
- If you live in the City of San Diego and have been stalled by the permit process required to build, you know that the building department is severely understaffed. The current delays have caused the city to be way behind in meeting housing production goals. The lack of personnel at the building department has resulted in delays in housing at all income levels and has contributed to the higher cost of housing in our area, due to fewer units and high demand. Now, the city plans to hire two outside companies to help clear the backlog and get things caught up over the next two years. (Times of San Diego)
