Here are four of the top stories today in San Diego:
- There’s a new kid in town, and it's called COVID XBB. It’s a subvariant of the Omicron variant that spread in 2021. This new virus variant can evade immune responses and may cause a surge in cases. County officials are monitoring the situation, and they continue to urge people to get vaccinated and boosted. (NBC San Diego)
- After 100 years, residents voted to end free trash pickup within the City of San Diego. Next step will be to enact a fee-for-service system. Then it will take a few years before the city can actually start charging a fee. Monthly fees are expected to be between $23-$29 to cover the city’s expenses for providing the service. (Times of San Diego)
- If you’ve ever wanted to be part of the Commission on Police Practices, now is your chance. The commission is an investigatory body of the City of San Diego, independent of the mayor and the police department . It will be comprised of 25 residents of diverse backgrounds. Interested? You are welcome to apply online. (FOX 5 San Diego)
- What can you expect this holiday season? Family? Friends? Stress? All of the above? You need to prioritize what’s important to you. Be kind to yourself, you don’t have to be perfect. Don’t hesitate to ask for help. It’s okay to say no to invitations. Suffering from mom guilt? Find ways to de-stress with yoga, meditation, exercise, or a cup of herbal tea. Try to spend less time stressing and more time with those you love. Have a great holiday! (Times of San Diego)
