Crews Fully Contain Border 2 Fire In San Diego County

​The San Diego County Sheriff's Office lifted the remaining evacuation orders Thursday morning. ​

SAN DIEGO, CA — Crews have fully contained a wildfire that burned thousands of acres and forced evacuation orders and warnings north of the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County.

The blaze, called the Border 2 Fire, sparked around 2:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in a remote area near Otay Mountain Truck Trail, west of Doghouse Junction in the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area, according to Cal Fire San Diego. As of 5:47 a.m. Thursday, the fire remained at 6,625 acres and was 100% contained.

"No fire activity was observed today," Cal Fire said in a Thursday morning update. "A few sprinkles fell on the fire this morning, but skies were mostly clear throughout the day. Fire crews spent much of the day patrolling for any hot spots and picking up trash and hose from the fire line. There is no anticipated fire growth going forward, and equipment and personnel are being released from the incident."

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office lifted the remaining evacuation orders for zones SDC-2464-B and SDC-2543-A Thursday morning.

The fire caused no reported structural damage or injuries.
