  1. Did you feel it? A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck Mexico yesterday, and it was felt here in San Diego. 2. More than 2,000 units of blood were collected during Comic-Con weekend. The blood drive was held at the Manchester Grand, and donors received a limited edition 'Thor: Love and Thunder' shirt for their donations. “We are extremely thankful to the donors and everyone at Comic-Con who helped make this drive possible,” San Diego Blood Bank CEO Doug Morton said. “This drive came at a critical time, as summer is always a tough time to collect blood. Thousands of lives will be touched by the blood collected at this drive.” Anyone donating blood at any local blood bank location before Aug. 14 will get the T-shirt. 3. White sharks have been using the San Diego waters as a ‘nursery.’ "White sharks were protected in California in 1994 and their food sources have recovered, so as a result, we’re starting to see more sharks. The population is recovering and that’s a good sign," said Dr. Chris Lowe, a marine biologist, and director of the Shark Lab at California State University Long Beach. Juvenile sharks prefer the shallow, warm waters around San Diego. “There is a relatively low risk of people being injured by those juvenile white sharks that are using our popular beaches as their nursery,” said Lowe. 4. The beagles are coming! They are coming to Helen Woodward Animal Center to be rehomed here in San Diego. The 45 dogs are part of the 4,000 beagles recently rescued from Envigo RMS in Virginia. The company was cited for failing to provide humane care to the animals. Helen Woodward Animal Center Adoption Services Director Hella Tyler stated, “We are grateful to have such an extraordinary group of foster families that can help us save these lives. These puppies really need love and human kindness to show them all of the wonderful things a normal puppy’s life should provide. We couldn’t be more thrilled to assist with this rescue.” If you would like to help, contact the Helen Woodward Animal Center. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link.
