  1. At least 17 potential human trafficking victims were rescued this week. The FBI🕵️ , partnered with state and federal agencies on Operation Cross Country to crack down on these horrific crimes. "This year's operation emphasizes the FBI's commitment to identifying and locating victims of human trafficking and bringing to justice those who seek to exploit them," said Stacey Moy, special agent in charge of the FBI San Diego Field Office. "We are proud to have worked alongside our law enforcement partners in our efforts against these horrific crimes. The FBI will continue to investigate all human trafficking, as we do each and every day, to ensure the victims receive the resources and assistance they need, and their traffickers are held accountable." A minor under the age of 18 was among those rescued. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (Patch)
  2. As the monarch butterflies 🦋 flutter by, they add so much to the beauty and color to our area. That is why it is so sad that we are losing them. The monarch butterfly has been listed as a ‘now endangered’ species. Only one in 10 will survive the odds. One of the causes of this species decline is the tropical milkweed which is planted in many local gardens. "The California Department of Food and Agriculture states that tropical milkweed has been designated a destructive weed," Lizette L., a former teacher and North Park resident, continued. "It reported that tropical milkweed is host to a protozoan parasite of monarch butterflies called Ophryocystis elektroscirrha, which are carried on adult monarchs as they migrate.” However, tropical milkweed is not the only culprit in the monarch butterfly’s demise. 3. 🎨Calling all artists! The San Diego International Airport would like you to submit your works for an exhibit entitled ‘A Necessary Departure.’✈️ The art pieces should show how the pandemic has changed society. According to the program notice, the goal is to “create a conversation that acknowledges the worldwide pandemic as a societal anomaly, while also highlighting the resulting ways that artists and creative thinkers have contributed to positive change.” Along with artists, curators and other community or educational organizations are welcome to submit their proposals by 🗓️ Aug. 29. Submission should include no more than 10 images, or three video links, along with a written description of the submission and its connection to the theme. When they attempted to stop the bicyclist, he decided to pedal faster and try to flee from the officers. He then ran on foot into an apartment complex with kids playing outside. While running, he was reaching for his waistband. The man tripped, and when he hit the ground, the officer heard something metal hitting the ground. The officers were taking him into custody, and this gun was found under the suspect. The man was a convicted felon who was prohibited from owning a firearm."
