Here are four of the top stories in San Diego today:

  1. There is a fentanyl crisis in the United States and in San Diego. According to the CDC, the number one killer of people 18-45 years of age is fentanyl. In San Diego more than 850 fentanyl-related deaths occurred last year, and this trend is expected to increase by the end of 2022. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors declared illegal fentanyl a public health emergency. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (NBC San Diego)
  2. Thinking about a day out on the water? If so, you need to know about the new rules for boaters. Now, boaters 45 years and younger are required to have a “California Boater Card.” In addition, unless inside an enclosed cabin, anyone under 13 years of age must wear a life jacket. Harbor Police will be watching for boaters who are DUI, for reckless boaters, and for speeders. To learn more: Click into parenthesis, then click the link. (FOX 5 San Diego)
  3. Stay away! That is the message from the Gaslamp Quarter Association to those causing violence in the area. "The association has expressed their concerns about the fact that we need more police. We need more PD officers in downtown, so we hope that they hear our plea," Michael Trimble, executive director of the Gaslamp Quarter Association, said. "Stay away from Gaslamp [and] stay away from downtown because if you're carrying weapons, you will be caught, and the police are out and they're looking for you." 4. Looking for something fun to do? Come on out to the Lions Club Carnival, Thursday through Monday, July 4, in National City. On Saturday, the Miss National City Educational Pageant is schedule to begin at 7 p.m. on the stage at Kimball Park. Fireworks will follow at 9 p.m. Come on out and enjoy!
