Fight At Fiesta Island Leads To Stabbing, Fatal Shooting

SAN DIEGO, CA — An off-duty San Diego Community College District police officer fatally shot a man who allegedly stabbed him Wednesday during a confrontation at Fiesta Island.

The deadly encounter at the city park on Mission Bay was reported shortly after 10 a.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

The campus police officer had just arrived on the island with his dogs when the fracas took place, SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell told reporters. San Diego police arrived to find him suffering from stab wounds and the other man fatally injured.

The latter man died at the scene. Paramedics took the SDCCD lawman to a hospital for treatment of serious but apparently non-life-threatening injuries. The men's names remained unavailable as of early Wednesday evening.
