  1. It was a shocking sight! A hot dog cart caught on fire in the Gaslamp Quarter. The event prompted the Gaslamp Quarter Association to become concerned about illegal street vending in the city. “Every weekend, starting on Thursday all the way through Sunday, you'll see no less than 50 illegal vendors in the Gaslamp Quarter,” Executive Director of Gaslamp Quarter Association Michael Trimble said. Even with ordinance O-21459 being in effect, street vendors still operate without abiding by the rules. It's time for the City of San Diego to act. (NBC San Diego)
  2. It was a community project. It was an effort to paint over the graffiti on the park’s bathroom wall after the city failed to remove it. “I said, 'Ah, heck, why don’t we get this bathroom looking really nice and have this park the best-looking park in San Diego?'” said Dale Siscon, a regular at the park. A group of volunteers got together to get the painting done. Within days, Siscon was escorted off the property in the middle of his painting. Users of the dog park were outraged. “Within a 12-hour span, they were able to put so much taxpayer dollars to wipe out a community project basically,” said the president of the local dog park. “To me, it made me very upset. Very disappointed because to me, my heart was broken. I put my whole heart and soul into it,” said Siscon. (NBC San Diego)
  3. The Old Town Chamber of Commerce will celebrate Dia de los Muertos at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The event will include traditional candlelight procession ending at the El Campo Santo Cemetery. Guests are welcome to join the procession and are encouraged to dress for the occasion. Dia de los Muertos ofrendas (alters) will be set up at restaurants, museums, shops, and so forth. A public ofrenda will be set up at the cemetery – visitors may add their own photos and tributes to their loved one. (Presidio Sentinel)
