Flood Watch Issued For San Diego County Through Friday Afternoon

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall" will be possible through tomorrow afternoon, the National Weather Service is warning.

SAN DIEGO, CA — If you're traveling ahead of Christmas Eve, be careful — the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for San Diego County through tomorrow afternoon.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall will be possible throughout the county for the duration of the watch, the NWS said.

"Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations," the NWS said. "Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas."

In the county's coastal areas, mountains and valleys, the Weather Service said, look out for widespread heavy rainfall from this evening through early Friday, with up to 0.60 inches of rain each hour.

Flash flooding will be possible, according to the NWS, and dangerous debris could flow in and around the Bond and El Dorado burn scar areas.

In San Diego County deserts, the heaviest rainfall is expected from after midnight until Friday morning, with rainfall totaling up to 1 inch. Flooding there may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
