'Footy McFooty Face' Has Foot In The Door For Proposed San Diego Soccer Team

"Footy McFooty Face" leads the San Diego Bad Hombres and San Diego Surf in votes for the team name on the group's Facebook page.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A San Diego group that wishes to bring a Major League Soccer team to town has put the naming of the proposed team up to the folks on the internet. As expected, the internet does not disappoint: The name "Footy McFooty Face" is the leading name candidate by a wide margin.

Footy McFooty Face is walking all over other proposed, seemingly good names like "Bad Hombres" and "Bolts." But the internet being the internet, has of course, embraced the oddest and funniest sounding name possible.

SoccerCity SD is the group managing the Facebook page poll, and the group's website claims that San Diego is the ideal city for Major League Soccer, and it might be right.

SAN DIEGO IS THE PREMIER SOCCER DESTINATION IN AMERICA
Welcome to the new soccer capital of America and a new home for soccer fans in San Diego. Fans will have a new professional soccer team in town, as well as the opportunity to cheer on their favorite international and club teams, all playing in our innovative stadium and training at our state of the art facilities.

But does SoccerCity SD think that the team name "San Diego Footy McFooty Face" has a marketable ring to it? Probably not, but clever marketing might be able to forge partnerships with shoe companies, insole liners, foot powder and more. Just imagine what the Footy McFooty Face mascot could be!

Remember Boaty McBoatface? Last year, the name of a $300 million state-of-the-art polar research ship was left to the internet, and the "RRS Boaty McBoatface" was christened on the web. Even though Boaty McBoatface won the internet by a landslide, the name was overruled.
