Gas Lamp Fatal Shooting: Police Arrest Suspect With Help Of Bystanders
A group of good Samaritans helped in capturing the shooter, police say.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 46-year-old man was shot and killed Sunday at a rooftop bar in the Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego Police say. The shooter was detained by Good Samaritans at the scene, according to multiple media outlets, and the gun was recovered. There was no additional threat to the public, according to authorities.
Shortly after 5 p.m., a victim was fatally shot on the third floor of the Cielo Rooftop Lounge building, located at 701 Sixth Avenue, San Diego Police Department spokesperson Lt. Travis Easter said.
Bryan Tyner, 37, of San Diego, was arrested at the scene. He is being held at the San Diego County Jail, held on suspicion of shooting the victim, whose name has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.

Numerous good Samaritans, thought to be security and witnesses to the crime, detained the shooter at the scene until police arrived. Witnesses say a fight broke out before the shooting, according to police statements.
Police Lt. Luis Maggi told ABC Channel 10 News reporters that the department has bystanders to thank for detaining the suspect.

"(He) was detained by the time officers got here. I'm not clear on if these folks were security or employees of the bar or just patrons, but he was detained before officers even got here. So people did the right thing and held him for police."
The crime scene investigation continued into the evening, as police processed evidence and interviewed witnesses.
